Tracing Bitmaps

Bitmaps are typically larger in file size than most vector graphics, and can noticeably affect the file size of your movie. Comparing bitmaps and vector graphics is a bit like comparing apples and elephants, though. Bitmap and vector graphic formats have different intended uses. Bitmaps are best for photographic images, and vector graphics work best with drawn art that contains solid areas of color.

For more information about vector graphics, see “Understanding Vector Graphics,” page 38 (Chapter 3, “Drawing and Painting in Flash”).
