Using Object.registerClass() to Subclass a New Movie Clip

Although registerClass() is officially a method of the Object class, it is used only with movie clips. It doesn’t work with other types of objects, such as buttons.

The registerClass() method provides a convenient way of subclassing a new clip. This approach, which is used by Macromedia in its components, “preregisters” a movie clip for membership in a particular class.
