Flash at Work: A Scratch-and-Win Game

Peter Hall’s scratch.fla on the CD uses the drawing API and dynamic masking to create a scratch-and-win game.

In scratch.fla, four covered windows hide a random selection of four symbols: an apple, a bell, a lemon, and a star. The player scratches the “wax” covering off the Windows, hoping to find a match. When scratching, the player actually creates a mask using the drawing API. As the player fills in the mask, the symbol under it appears because the parts of the mask that contain graphics are the parts that reveal whatever is under them.
