Editing Symbols

Over the course of a project, changes will be made and symbols will need to be edited. Color schemes, graphics, and even the navigation structure of a movie may change. Because symbols are archetypes, editing a symbol changes every instance of that symbol. This is the beauty of symbols. If a client dislikes a particular color, using symbols allows you to quickly change the color in a few symbols and update the color throughout an entire movie. You can edit symbols in three ways: in place, in a new window, or in symbol-editing mode.

Edit in Place

As its name implies, the Edit in Place command allows you to edit a symbol within the context of the Stage. This capability is useful for tweaking size, color, and shape. To edit in place, double-click a symbol on the Stage, or select a symbol and choose Edit, Edit in Place, or Ctrl-click (Mac), or right-click (Windows) and select Edit in Place from the pop-up menu, as shown in Figure 6.13.
