Why is my drawing-intensive program getting choppy and slowing down to a crawl?

If you have a program that does a lot of drawing in a single movie clip, you may find that it becomes choppy and excessively slow. If you divide the same amount of drawing among multiple clips, you may find that you get a new lease on life each time you begin a new clip. Peter Hall’s scratch.fla on the CD (discussed at the end of Chapter 17) uses this technique, for instance.
