Loading Dynamic Data

Using dynamically generated Web pages is one way to feed your movies with dynamic data. However, you can also use the LoadVars object to get data from a dynamically generated source. To use this object, you must write server-side programs, also called Common Gateway Interface scripts, or CGI scripts. CGI scripts are written with a variety of languages, such as Perl, C, and Java. Because teaching you any of these languages is beyond the scope of this book, I’ll try to keep the examples as simple as possible. I’ll use Perl because it is widely available and easy to understand.

Consider the example of getting the current server time. A Perl program to get the current server time and return it looks like this:
