Chapter 8. Working with Vector Art > Troubleshooting Vector Art

Troubleshooting Vector Art

  • Macintosh Illustrator 8 users might experience trouble converting complex artwork from Illustrator 8.0.1 using the Flash Writer. Reduce the number of curves and lines in the document and then export, or upgrade to Illustrator 9.0.

  • Although vector artwork is small in size, some complex artwork can actually be larger than raster (or bitmap) artwork. If you are having trouble reducing your movies, try turning a few symbols to raster artwork and using JPEG compression to reduce the file size.

  • Is your animation running slowly on low-end computers? Try decreasing the frame rate and shortening the distance between keyframes. If this doesn't work, try to reduce the complexity of your vector symbols.

  • Flash 5 movies do not work on browsers with the Flash 4 plug-in. If you recently upgraded to Flash 5 but still want to develop for the Flash 4 plug-in, leave Flash 4 on your computer. Use the Flash 4 player (located in the Flash 4 directory on you computer) to test how the movies will work using the Flash 4 player.
