Chapter 20. Smart Clips > Creating Custom Smart Clip Interfaces

Creating Custom Smart Clip Interfaces

The default list interface in the Clip Parameters panel accepts any value. In most cases, though, reasons exist to impose restrictions on the values that can be set for a parameter. For example, if you enter a negative number for the speed of a spaceship, it won't work as expected after the spaceship moves off the left side of the screen (the negative direction). Also, the modulus operation doesn't force a wrap-around effect on negative values.

One way to restrict the value of a parameter is to perform a check in the script and modify a value before it's actually used. That method can confuse users, though, because they won't know why the values they've set aren't working the way they thought they would. Fortunately, you can both control the values entered and provide visual feedback to the users of the smart clip.
