Using Slider Controls

Slider controls are very similar to progress bars. They show a value that represents a position within a range, such as how far into a document you have scrolled. Where they differ is that progress bars are usually not controlled by the users, but slider controls are. They give users control over some element in the interface.

Slider controls are commonly used for scrolling text, sound volume or panning, image-size manipulation, and so on. The trick to using them is to determine some numeric relationship between the property you want to control and the value determined by the slider.
