Creating Progress Bars

A progress bar isn't always considered a user interface element because it's usually not something that's under the user's control. It is an important visual element in most interface designs, though, because it provides important information to the user about where she is in a process. It can cut user frustration significantly because it tells the user how much longer she has to wait.

Progress bars show the user a visual expression of a ratio between how much of a task is complete and the total task. To do that, you must express the ratio as a number.
