Chapter 22. Network Operations > Sending Data to a Web Server

Sending Data to a Web Server

Although grabbing text from a server is fairly easy, sending text to the server is a little bit harder, at least in terms of actually having the server receive the data. Even though you can read a static text file from a server without any server-side scripting being involved, writing text to the server willy nilly would be a major security breach. You have to specifically create a method for anything from an HTML form to a Flash movie to actually send data to the server.

Flash Forms

An option in the loadVariables action and method is to send the variables attached to a timeline to the server as part of the request for the variables. The capability to send variables can change what gets returned from the server.
