Chapter 4. Modifying Shape Attributes > Troubleshooting Shape Attributes

Troubleshooting Shape Attributes

  • Gradient and bitmap fills are very difficult to process when your movie is playing back on a user's machine. If your animation is hesitating or choppy in certain areas, review the presentation and remove any gradients from that area to smooth out the playback.

  • Colors can vary based on the end-computer capacity to render values and the browser being used. If hues in your presentation appear different from machine to machine, try using Web-safe colors. This palette represents 216 colors that are considered standard across various video cards and software. Any other colors might be interpreted by the computer and the browser, and not show up as you intended.

  • Cathode-Ray Tube (CRT) screens and Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) displays can render hues and colors differently. Test your colors on various monitors, especially the client's own workstations.

  • If your gradient or bitmap fill is not applying properly, check whether the Lock Fill option is engaged on the main toolbar. This sends the fill to the background, and selected shapes are used as a mask to reveal the fill in that section.

  • Use Alpha Transparencies sparingly. The effect can bog down playback on slower machines. Test the performance on a low-end machine before you commit the effect throughout an entire project.
