Using the Debugger Window

A new feature in Flash 5 is the Debugger window, which enables you to examine not only the structure of a movie and its variables, but also the properties of movie clips. Even more amazingly, it lets you modify those values as the movie's playing.

By default, you can't debug a movie. This default setting keeps your movies from being taken apart by someone else unless you specifically allow them to do so. The Flash tab in the Publish dialog box has an option that enables debugging for the current Flash movie when it's exported (see Figure 25.6).
