Avoiding Mistakes

The best defense against bugs is a good offense. Writing slapdash code is the leading cause of errors. When you're working on large projects, every hour of time you put into planning how elements of the movie will interact will most likely save you two or more hours of debugging.

That's not to say that planned projects are bug-free. Sometimes planning itself can go wrong, but if you set guidelines and follow them, finding the mistakes is much, much easier.
