Chapter 5. Creating Symbols > Creating Symbols

Creating Symbols

Development for each type of symbol is similar, but it increases in difficulty from graphic, to button, to movie symbols. Graphic symbols are fairly simple, and they differ from other stage-related objects in that they actually have been defined as symbols at one point. Buttons require a bit more attention, with changes for different states. And movie symbols can wind up being very complex depending on your end objectives.

Despite the pending complexity, working with symbols also is a keystone to Flash development. Start with the basics—reusing geometric shapes and images as symbols—and then work forward, delving into the more involved world of movie and button symbols.
