Chapter 27. Browser Scripting > Conversing with the Browser Environment

Conversing with the Browser Environment

Utilizing FSCommand is a little more complex when the host application is a browser, primarily because the commands must pass through a few more hoops. Although the FSCommand speaks to the Flash player application directly, when conversing with a browser host, the FSCommand must be interpreted and implemented by the host's scripting language, usually JavaScript (but also VBScript in the case of Microsoft Internet Explorer).

Complicating this issue is the fact that not all browsers entertain the same version of their respective scripting language, and certain browser hosts don't allow the Flash movie to communicate at all!
