Chapter 15. Actionscript Syntax > Troubleshooting ActionScript Syntax

Troubleshooting ActionScript Syntax

  • Remember that many actions can use various types of data as parameters and act differently depending on those values. Be sure that expressions you think are passing numbers aren't really supplying strings.

  • Switching back and forth between Normal and Expert modes in the Actions panel is easy. If you're about to enter a command you're unfamiliar with and you're working in Expert mode, don't be too proud to switch momentarily. Just select the mode you want from the Actions menu (at the upper right of the panel).

  • The Expert mode of the Actions panel doesn't indent your scripts inside loops or if statements, but maintaining indentation can make a world of difference when you're trying to determine program flow. Switching into Normal mode indents your script automatically.
