Seminar 8. Using Components in a Macrome... > Forms and Editable Text Fields

Forms and Editable Text Fields

Now, we’ll discuss features that greatly extend the power of Flash editable text fields. There are two types of editable text fields—input and dynamic. Seminar 3, “Creating a Movie,” introduced the three text types in Flash: static, input, and dynamic text. Up to this point in the book, you have used static text for communicating information or instructions, button labels, and basically any stationary text that is used throughout a movie.

Flash MX offers new functionality for input and dynamic text fields because they are now treated as objects, just as movie clip symbols in previous releases of Flash were treated as objects. Editable text fields can now be assigned an instance name, enabling them to be called and controlled in ActionScript. This is a big area of improvement for further functionality in Flash MX.
