Testing a Button

After you have developed the button states, you should test your button. You can test your button in one of two ways. You can test a button in the Flash Authoring environment by selecting Control, Enable Simple Buttons. Then, when you move your pointer over the button, the mouse turns to the pointing hand tool, enabling you to trigger the button. If you have developed the Down and Over states with new button images, you will see these images display in relation to your interaction with the button. But if you used a movie clip instance for any of the button states, typical of any movie clip instance, you will need to test the movie in the Flash Player testing mode to see the movie clip. You do this by selecting Control, Test Movie. Testing the buttons in the Flash Player testing mode is the second technique.

Note

The Control, Enable Simple Buttons is a toggle menu. You must turn off this feature to work with your button further in the Flash Authoring environment.
