Seminar 5. Importing Graphics into a Movie > Working with Imported Objects

Working with Imported Objects

Macromedia Flash MX does many things very well—most people find the drawing tools of Flash MX good for creating Stage objects and shapes. But because it is a vector-based application, some effects that you can attain in raster applications can’t be created in Flash MX. Good examples are soft edges for an object and a filter effect of PhotoShop. Whether to create your movie objects and design in Macromedia Flash MX or to use another graphics application is decided by the design of the site. You know from Seminar 1, “Macromedia Flash MX and Web Site Development,” that many file types can be imported into Flash. When you import an object, it becomes an asset of your movie. Knowing how to work with imported objects is the next step.

This seminar focuses on the import features of Flash MX in regard to graphics files and provides information on how to optimize and work with the imported graphics images. Seminar 12, “Adding Sound to Enhance a Site,” covers importing sound files, and Seminar 15, “Adding Digital Video to the Site,” covers importing video clips.
