Creating and Using Layers

As Seminar 2 pointed out, layers are a feature of Flash that enable you to easily work with many Stage objects simultaneously. Layers can be viewed as a transparency or sheet of acetone. By positioning objects on that layer, the vector shapes do not merge with other vector shapes. Through the various layer features, such as hiding and showing layers or folder layers, you can control exactly which objects you want visible on the Stage, allowing you to focus only on these objects.

Layers are invaluable in Flash development. To use them, you must understand the basic layer features and editing techniques. You can add new layers by clicking the Insert Layer button (see Figure 3.38).
