Seminar 3. Creating a Movie > The Power of Text

The Power of Text

If you browse the Web looking at different sites, you are sure to notice how effective text is for communicating a message. Not only does it state the message, but you can enhance the text by making it larger or skewed. This helps to utilize the design concept of contrast in your Web design. When you begin to animate text, the message can be even more powerful. Many Flash designers use text with special effects to achieve very interesting sites that have a punch.

Three text types are available in Flash: Static Text, Dynamic Text, and Input Text. Each type has its own features for a movie’s development. Static text is just that— static text on the page. It is used for informational purposes. Dynamic text is text that can change based on the ActionScript in a movie or user interaction—for example, an area that displays the name of an object on the Stage when the end-user clicks the object. In other words, it is a text block that displays information based on what is happening in the movie. Input text is used to collect data from the user. It is essentially form fields in your movie that allow the user to type in his information.
