Seminar 6. Animation and Special Effects... > Creating the Opening Stage Animation

Creating the Opening Stage Animation

As you are probably realizing by now, symbols and instances are where much of the power of Flash MX is, but animation is where the fun is. Next, you’ll learn how to create and use animation to add some excitement to the Honeycomb Web site project. To see an example of the animation that you will create for this site, open 06honeycomb.swf, which is on the CD-ROM in the Seminar06/Samples directory.

The Honeycomb Web site uses some simple animation that creates a fun and interesting effect for the Web site. The header and footer bars will slowly fly onto the Stage from the top and the bottom of the Stage, and then the shadows for both the header and the footer follow, but they appear transparent at first and slowly display to a 25% transparency. Then, the logo appears—first in white—and slowly changes to its normal appearance. Next, the menu bar drops into the movie from the top, followed by the login box moving into the movie from the bottom. The background design is set at this point but is missing one character, Buzzy Bee. Buzzy Bee appears by flying onto the Stage. His wings flap, and his path simulates the motion of flying. The site suddenly comes alive by the use of this animation and has more appeal.
