Creating the In Quest of Ducks Activity

This workshop pulls together many of the features you have learned about Flash throughout this book. You will create the “In Quest of Ducks” activity of The Honeycomb site. To see a preview of the In Quest of Ducks activity, open the ducks.fla file located in the Seminar15/Samples directory on the CD-ROM that accompanies this book. Test the movie in the Flash Player Testing Mode and you’ll see a short video clip display showing ducks in a pond. As the instructions indicate, when the clip ends, you are to count the visible ducks. You can either type an answer in the input box below the video clip, or you can manually click each duck to generate a new number in the input box. Click the Check button to check whether the number in the input box is correct. A message displays letting you know whether the number is correct.

You will use the new video import feature of Flash MX to embed a video clip in the movie. Then, through the use of both a dynamic and an input text field and ActionScript attached to buttons or movie clip instances, you will create the counting and confirmation functionality for the activity.
