Chapter NINE. JUXT INTERACTIVE DECONSTRU... > the pitfalls of screen presentation

the pitfalls of screen presentation

Although it may seem like a natural medium for presenting a design concept to a client, the screen has many problems associated with it. First and foremost, this type of presentation is a very time-intensive effort with a limited payoff. It's true that you may be closer to completing the motion graphics, but only if the client accepts the pitch with no changes whatsoever—and the chances of that happening are slim.

Moreover, I find monitor presentations to be ripe targets for disaster. There are so many possibilities for something to go wrong—equipment failure, software failure, network failure, even power failure—that it's a rare demo that proceeds without a hitch. Also, with a screen presentation, the client often finds it more difficult to grasp the entirety of the work, as each moment is presented piece by piece, without an overview or sense of the visual vocabulary.
