The Interface

Sometimes it's hard to know how to start a chapter, but in this case Macromedia makes it easy with the first new feature of Flash MX 2004, the start page.

The Start Page

When you first open Flash, the start page opens as shown in Figure 1.1. The choices available on this page are also available in the File menu, but they are easier to access this way. The three main selections to choose from are: Open a Recent Item, which holds many of the most recent files you have worked in; Create New, which has many new options for creating a new file (especially in Flash MX 2004 Pro); and Create from Template. You can also choose from the options in the Help panel at the bottom about getting a tour of Flash, taking built-in lessons, and updating your help system (which I recommend doing regularly). And of course, if you do not want the start page to appear every time you start Flash, you can check the Don't Show Again check box at the bottom left of the page.
