Strict Data Typing

As mentioned in Chapter 8, “Welcome to ActionScript 2.0,” ActionScript now has the ability to have strict data typing. This means that you can declare a data type on variables, objects, parameters and results. If the data type changes after you have labeled a strict data type, Flash will produce an error in the Output panel.

Here is the basic way to declare a data type on a variable:
