Chapter 5. Movie Clip Control > Linking User Classes to Movie Clips

Linking User Classes to Movie Clips

In some instances you may want to create a new class or the extension of a movie class and connect the script directly to your symbol. For example, if you have a task you're likely to use again and again, creating a user class and linking that class directly to a movie clip can save a lot of time.

Suppose you want to have several movie clips on the Stage that can be dragged wherever the user wants them. You might want to develop a fish tank movie that allows children to drag any number of fish movie clips around the “tank” (Stage). Rather than writing a separate drag script for each of the fish instances, you can extend the MovieClip class in a dynamic class and link all instances of the symbol to the class.
