Chapter 5. Movie Clip Control > The MovieClip Class

The MovieClip Class

Because so much of Flash is centered around the MovieClip class in one way or another, attempting to cover all the features of the MovieClip class here would be overwhelming and not too useful. Instead, representative materials from each class category—methods, properties, events, and drawing methods—have been provided in little projects in this chapter. In subsequent chapters, more key aspects of the MovieClip class are discussed where appropriate. For example, because Chapter 6, “Viewing and Entering Information with Text Fields,” focuses on text fields, the getTextSnapshot() method is discussed in detail in that chapter instead of this one.

Each MovieClip subsection begins with a table that summarizes the methods, properties, drawing properties, or event handlers. Then a short sample project or reference to the chapter project shows how to use selected features. In this way, you can get a quick overview of MovieClip class features and see how to use them in practical applications.
