In going over all the emails I had collected since Flash MX Professional 2004 saw the light of day, I was dumbfounded by the amount of help I received. Then, after careful examination, I was sure there were others whose help I may have overlooked. So although I have a lot of people to thank, those who were somehow overlooked can include themselves as the recipients of my gratitude.

First of all, Macromedia, the company that makes Flash, provided a truly incredible level of assistance to me. The following folks gave valued assistance when needed, while putting up with a lot of whining and grumbling. They include Alvin Liuson, Barbara Herbert, Brad Becker, Chris Thilgen, Chris Walcott, Colm McKeon, Ed Skwarecki, Edwin Wong, Eliza Laffin, Erica Norton, Eric Thompson, Erik Bianchi, Gary Grossman, Heather Hollaender, Henriette Cohn, Jeanette Stallons, Jethro Villegas, Jobe Makar, Jody Bleyle, Jody Zhang, Jonas Galvez, Karen Cook, Lucian Beebe, Lily Khong, Mark Shepherd, Matt Wobensmith, Michael Morris, Mike Chambers, Mike Tilburg, Nigel Pegg, Nivesh Rajbhandari, Scott Fegette, Sharon Selden, Ted Casey, Tim Slater, Vera Fleischer, Waldo Smeets, and Waleed Anbar.

Second, but equally important, are the fellow Flash developers who have worked with Flash MX Professional 2004. These men and women share their knowledge with unbounded generosity. They include Adam Bell, Allen Ellison, Andreas Heim, Aral Balkan, aYo Binitie, Bill Ristine, Branden Hall, Brian Hogg, Brian Lesser, Burak Kalayci, Chad Corbin, Chafic Kazoun, Colin Moock, Dave Yang, Greg Burch, Derek Franklin, Fernando Flórez, Jen Dehaan, Jonas Galvez, Joey Lott, John Dalziel, Mathieu Anthoine, Melvyn Song Kian Guan, Mike Carlisle, Nik Schramm, Owen van Dijk, Peter Brouwers, Peter Hall, Phillip Kerman, Rafal Niesluchowski, Robert Hoekman, Robert M. Hall, Robert Penner, Robert Reinhardt, Robin Debreuil, Ron Haberle, Saban Uenlue, Samuel Neff, Samuel Wan, Stefan Richter, and Nate Weiss. They are truly an international group showing a worldwide cooperation that contains the seeds of implied world harmony. Although I am most grateful to all these folks, I must add that any shortcomings in this book are due to my own shortcomings, and certainly not anything that any of them offered so graciously.

Like most books, this one was a product of a cooperative effort. Under the leadership of Shelley Johnston at Sams Publishing, I worked with a host of talented editors. Robin Drake was a patient development editor, and Elizabeth Finney served as our very capable Project Editor. Steve Heckler and Brandon Houston served as technical editors, two Flash pros themselves, with an eye to all the technical detail. They were a great help. Finally, copy editor Bart Reed did a masterful job of making sure that everything made sense. As always, I am grateful to Margo Maley-Hutchinson at Waterside Productions for bringing author and publisher together.

My wife Delia and dog WillDe are the best companions an author could have, and their support and understanding are always important.
