Q&A

Q1:Do Components have to be so complicated?
A1: Of course not. These examples are relatively basic (that is, they could be much more sophisticated). Take this for a simple Component example: Suppose that you have a text heading that appears in many places throughout your movie. Using the same Component means that if you ever need to change the font style, you just edit the master version of the clip, not every occurrence of a heading. As for the contents of the headings, that's where a parameter comes in. Just make a Dynamic Text block, associate it with a variable called “message,” convert it to a symbol (Movie Clip), use the Component Definition on the master, and create a new property called “message.” Then in each instance that you drag into your movie, you can specify the value of “message” (in other words, the text of that heading) via the Parameters tab in the Properties panel.
