Streaming Video With Actionscript

If you’re not using Flash Pro or don’t want to weigh down your Flash movie by using Media components—the components included with Flash MX 2004 and Flash Pro add substantial weight to the file size of a movie—ActionScript is the way to go when you need to stream video into Flash. A few lines of code accomplish the same thing the Media-Display component could, with a smaller file size.

Opening A streaming Connection to the Server

The verb stream means to begin playing external content before it is downloaded in its entirety. Macromedia also uses the term stream (or data stream) as a noun to describe any audio or video data being provided on the fly from the server or disk. In
