Text Effects

Remember the typewriter effect we created in Chapter 6? Well, that’s nothing compared to what’s possible with Flash if we employ a little more creativity. Remember, though, that while text effects are a powerful way to make text pop in any design, they should be used in moderation. The last thing most users want to see is a bunch of letters flying around the screen arbitrarily (most Flash pieces shouldn’t be performance art).

Cascading Text

First, we’ll create the ever-popular cascading text effect, as shown in Figure 7-1, in which the text appears to soar into position from close up to far away. An effect like this one is often used to make a particular word or term the focus of an animation so its importance is communicated to the user. Text effects might be applied to a company or product name to help brand it, or to something as simple as a step number in a tutorial to segue to the next section.
