12. Flash For Handhelds and Cd-rom > 12.2. Flash On Cd-rom

Flash On Cd-rom

Many developers use Macromedia Director, another multimedia authoring program, for CD-ROM development, but Flash is a feasible option if you’re not a Director guru. In all honesty, it’s entirely possible that more people use Flash for CD-ROM development than Director because there are more Flash developers in the world. And they tend to use Flash even when it isn’t sensible if they aren’t familiar with Director. Suffice it to say, this is not the place to get into the Flash versus Director debate. But if you are considering a CD-ROM-based project, consult a knowledgeable Director developer. Director is designed to handle large amounts of data, offers better performance, is fully extensible, and can incorporate Flash assets (along with a boatload of other media types). Director even supports real-time 3D, but that is another story.
