Using Components

To complete the project, we need to create the catalog-request form for the end of the movie, which we’ll build using Flash components. Part of Macromedia’s intention for components is to standardize common Flash UI elements so they function like things the user is already accustomed to using, such as scrollbars and checkboxes typical to HTML pages and web browsers. Another intention is to add support for features like accessibility and keyboard-driven focus (tab) management.

As noted in Chapter 10, however, the so-called v2 components that come with Flash MX 2004 add substantial file size to a movie, as their architecture is optimized for cases in which you use five or six of them. If you don’t need all the bells and whistles or if you are using only one or two components, the v2 components that come with Flash MX 2004 might be overkill.
