ActionScript has evolved over the years into a highly sophisticated object-based language. ActionScript 1.0 is based on the ECMA-262 standard, which was designed to standardize the features of JavaScript across platforms and implementations. JavaScript Versions 1.3 and higher conform to this standard, and Flash MX ActionScript conforms closely—but not entirely—to the standard.
