Introducing Flash

Flash MX 2004 and Flash MX Professional 2004 are different editions of the same program: Flash MX. You can use Flash to create animations, effects, vector graphics, interactive applications, software, presentations, and websites. All the content is built into the Flash authoring environment and saved as its native file format: FLA. You edit the FLA file, which contains all the assets (such as pictures, videos, and sound), and code. Flash publishes SWF files, which are small efficient files that display consistently on a variety of platforms using Flash Player (Figure 1.1). A SWF file is a compiled version of the FLA.
