Chapter 14. Using Text > Using Dynamic Text

Using Dynamic Text

Dynamic text in Flash is used to display information retrieved from some other source. Those sources can be ActionScript variables, hard-coded information (assigning a value to the field's text property), input text boxes, or external data sources such as XML, recordsets, Web Services, or name/variable pairs in text files.

To add a dynamic text field, select the Text tool, and in the Property Inspector, choose Dynamic Text from the text type pull-down menu. On the Stage, press and drag to create a text field.
