Chapter 12. Using Artwork Created Elsewh... > Importing and Editing Vector Artwork

Importing and Editing Vector Artwork

Vector artwork is artwork defined by mathematical equations, rather than color data affixed to a grid (like bitmap artwork). Flash, of course, has its own vector drawing tools, but in many cases, you may want to import vector artwork drawn in another program.

When you import files drawn in Adobe Illustrator that have the .ai extension, you will see a dialog box that asks you whether you want to preserve the file's original layer structure, flatten the layer, or distribute the layers to keyframes (effectively creating a frame-by-frame animation). You can also choose to include invisible layers. Many of the graphics in the file will be converted to graphic symbols.
