Shape Hints

Shape tweens are very hard to get right. Shape hints give you a way to exercise some control over how a shape tween executes by adding control points at the beginning and end of the sequence. Control points at the end of the sequence become targets for the animating shapes; the starting shape hint should end up at its counterpart's final position, essentially.

When you add a shape hint, you must do so at the starting keyframe of the animation sequence, and the layer has to be editable. First, highlight the starting keyframe and select Modify > Shape > Add Shape Hint. This will place a shape hint on the Stage. Drag it to some position on your shape (generally along the edge of the graphic). This is the beginning shape hint, and it should be red, with a letter. The first shape hint will be lettered “a,” of course.
