Bitmap Images

In general, bitmap images can pose two problems for a Flash application: bitmaps don't scale well, and they tend to be rather large.

First, optimize your bitmaps before you import them. You can optimize them in a utility such as Fireworks, and the general aim is to make the images as small as possible while maintaining a high image quality. When you publish in Flash, all bitmaps by default will be optimized with a JPG compression type, at 80 percent of their quality, which doesn't give you much in the way of control over individual image quality.
