Chapter 10. Layers and the Timeline > Frames and Keyframes

Frames and Keyframes

To insert a keyframe in a layer in the timeline, select Insert > Timeline > Keyframe. Use keyframes to designate how you want your content to appear at different points, such as the beginning and the end of an animation. When you insert a keyframe, any graphics in the keyframe before it will by default be copied into the new keyframe.

You can also insert blank keyframes, which are simply keyframes that do not copy graphics from the previous keyframe. In fact, any keyframe that doesn't have content is a blank keyframe. To insert a blank keyframe, select Insert > Timeline > Blank Keyframe, or right- or Control-click on the frame position you want to insert the blank keyframe in and choose Insert Blank Keyframe from the context menu.
