Chapter 17. Button Symbols > Creating Buttons

Creating Buttons

There are multiple ways to create buttons in Flash. You can take an asset that's already on the Stage, and convert it to a button symbol by selecting Modify > Convert to Symbol. You can drag the asset into the Library panel, which will convert it to symbol by default. You can also use the keyboard shortcut F8, or right- or Control-click on the asset on the Stage and choose Convert to Symbol from the Context menu. Any one of those methods will bring up the Convert to Symbol dialog. Choose Button in the Behavior section, give the button a name, and click OK when done. That creates the symbol in the library.

NOTE

If you don't add any other graphics in the button timeline, the Hit state becomes defined by whatever graphic is in the Up state.
