Chapter 17. Button Symbols > Button Symbols Explained

Button Symbols Explained

Button symbols allow users to interact with your Flash application. They consist of a hit state, which serves as a hot spot, and three optional aesthetic states which can be used to provide a visual feedback mechanism to a user, indicating that the button can be clicked. Those states are Up, Over, and Down, which we'll discuss in the section on making buttons.

In Flash, buttons are objects, and that means that they be controlled by ActionScript. This can be accomplished either through the Behaviors panel or the Actions panel, and both practices will be addressed in the “ActionScript and Buttons” section later in this chapter.
