Chapter 20. Animation Basics > Necessary Items

Necessary Items

To make an animation, you need keyframes, frames, visual assets, and organization. Keyframes, however, are most critical.

A keyframe indicates a position in time where something is going to change, whether it's the contents of the frame, a sound that's going to play, or an ActionScript that's going to execute. To insert a keyframe in a layer on the timeline, choose the frame position, then select Insert > Timeline > Keyframe, right- or Control-click on the frame position and choose Insert Keyframe from the Context menu. You can also use the keyboard shortcut F6.
