Chapter 6. Managing Outside Communicatio... > Communicating with External Flash Mo...

Communicating with External Flash Movies

You’ve learned how a Flash movie can use the action getURL to link to any file, including another Flash movie. This action loads the new SWF file into the same browser window, replacing the original movie, or into a new browser window.

Another way to communicate with external Flash movies and combine them with the original Flash movie is to use the actions loadMovie and loadMovieNum. Both actions allow you to bring in another SWF and integrate it with the current content. The original Flash movie establishes the frame rate, the Stage size, and the background color, but you can layer multiple external SWF files and even navigate within their Timelines. In Chapter 5, you learned to navigate the Timelines of movie clips within a single Flash movie. Now imagine the complexity of navigating multiple Timelines of multiple Flash movies!
