Creating New Movies

The first step in creating an engaging and powerful Macromedia Flash MX experience is making a new Flash movie. A Flash movie document is denoted by an .fla file extension. When you launch Flash, by default a new, untitled document opens for you. You can also create a new Flash file by selecting File, New from the drop-down menu bar at the top. The Flash document is the file that contains all your movie's code and assets, such as pictures, audio, Macromedia ActionScript, and text.

Once you have a new Flash movie, you can alter its Document Properties by selecting Modify, Document, or Control-J (Windows) or Command-J (Macintosh) to open the Document Properties box (see Figure 2.1). Here you can change the movie's dimensions, background color, and frame rate.
