Lesson 11. Optimizing Flash Content

Broadband Internet connections, while more widespread now, are still not ubiquitous. So there's a good chance that some of your Flash site's visitors will not be viewing it over high-speed connections. In fact, depending on your audience, some of your visitors will be using a somewhat slow dial-up connection. If that's the case, you must make sure that the file sizes for your site are as small as possible. You can do that by optimizing the content using some of the methods outlined in this lesson.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

In this lesson, you will:

  • Use the Bandwidth Profiler to see which parts of a movie require preloading

  • See how to preview your movie as it might play if it were downloaded over a modem line

  • Optimize the assets in a Flash movie to reduce the file size

  • Export a Flash movie as a .swf file

  • Load a .swf file into a movie

  • Load a JPEG image into a movie
