Transforming Sounds

For advanced users who want more precise control of how a sound is playing through the left and right speakers, Flash provides the method setTransform(). This method allows you to set percentages that determine how much of the right or left channel plays through the right and left speakers. Using this method, your sound can switch speakers from left to right dynamically or switch from stereo to mono.

The setTransform() method of the Sound object is very similar to the setTransform() method of the Color object discussed in Chapter 7. As with the Color object, using setTransform() with the Sound object requires that you create a generic object to hold the information specifying the distribution of left and right sounds. The properties of the sound-transformation object are ll, lr, rr, and rl (Figure 8.19). Table 8.1 summarizes the functions of these properties.
