Using a Shared Library

Shared libraries are new to Flash 5. Now several Flash movies can use symbols from the same library. This arrangement enables you to keep your file sizes small by storing assets such as sounds and fonts outside your main Flash movie. The beauty of shared symbol libraries is that teams can share a standard set of artwork across multiple movies. Any final tweaking of a symbol can be done in the shared library. After the shared library has been published, any other movies that use the library are updated automatically.

Shared symbols need to be downloaded only once and can be used across any number of files that refer to the shared symbol. This setup dramatically reduces download time and leads to a faster viewing experience. You can include font symbols, buttons, graphics, movie clips, and sounds in a shared library.
